There is nothing more annoying or, for beginner drivers, scary than realising your car is breaking down and you need to pull over to the side of the road to investigate. After all, cars cost so much money to keep in good operating order as it is that realising you are going to have to pay more can be very frustrating. However, you shouldn't dwell in the moment too much, as the longer you wait the more problems you start to incur. Here are a few reasons why you should call for breakdown towing assistance as soon as you safely pull over.
Get Out of a Dangerous Position
With your head clearly preoccupied with your own car's problems, it is easy to forget about the drivers around you. Even if you pull over in a quiet, suburban street the chances of you getting side-swiped or outright rear-ended are quite high. However, most people do not break down in convenient backstreets, but rather on busy sections of road where many cars travel at high speeds. Your first goal should be to get out of this situation as safely as possible, and that means getting towed out of there by a professional as soon as possible.
Not Have to Fix the Problem on Your Own
The more time you give yourself to think over a situation like a car breakdown, the more time you give you allow to be able to convince yourself that you can fix the problem on your own. Or, worse yet, that the problem isn't that bad and you can wait for the engine to cool down before continuing driving. These are two absolute no-no's. If your car has gotten to the point where its core function is breaking down, then there is no way that you will be able to fix it without serious mechanical help, and driving it again only increases the chances of more damage.
Get Back on the Road
Car breakdowns are never a good thing to go through, but the more time you spend delaying the inevitable the worse it gets. Taking a moment to compose yourself and calm down is perfectly normal, but then it is important to follow the right steps so that you can continue with your day. A lot of car breakdowns come from one or two malfunctioning components that can be relatively easy to replace (although that is not always the case). Whatever the problem is, delaying the fix will only ever make it worse, both for your schedule and your bank account!
